BOND UNIVERSITY CLUBHOUSE

Bond University shade structure installed by Versatile Structures

As one of Australia’s leading tertiary institutes renowned for their expertise from, medicine, architecture, and sports management, Bond University doesn’t just provide exclusive educational experience of the highest international standards but also they are also a member of the Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) and is the only Gold Coast based club competing in the Queensland Premier Rugby competition.

Versatile Structures were honoured to support the Bond University Rugby Club, by not only manufacturing and installing the structure but also take on the role of an architect.

When the Bull Sharks’ clubhouse and training grounds needed a large commercial architectural shade solution, we had to solve a structural issue that accommodates only one central post.

We utilised our inhouse engineering resources and capabilities to develop an architectural visually aesthetic solution, by reconfiguring our standard 4m x 4m Vypar into a 12 m x 12m or 144 m2 shade structure.

This also required beefing up the structural steel and tension cables to support the tension load requirements of the PVC membrane, using Serge Ferrari 502V2-1125C fabric in marine blue.

Although we were restricted by limited workable areas for the posts and footing, the project was a success, and the Bull Sharks are even keener to do their afternoon training drills under the new Vypar shade structure we installed at their clubhouse.
